Illustrator is the industry standard software for creating vector artwork for just about any digital or print media project.
This course is designed to be an introduction for those wishing to learn how to use Illustrator. The main features of the software will be explored in detail.
The course is delivered through instructor led, hands-on exercises tempered with overviews, demonstrations, discussions and individual practice.
Suitable For
Those completely or fairly new to Illustrator looking to get a good understanding of its main features.
Prerequisites
A good working knowledge of the computer and its operating system - for example to be at ease with: opening, closing, saving and locating files; using standard menus, commands and windows.
Course Content
- Getting to know the work area
- Workspaces, managing views, navigating multiple artboards, document groups.
- Selecting and aligning
- Selection tools, grouping items, isolation mode, aligning objects.
- Creating and editing shapes
- Basic shapes, line segments, joining paths, combining shapes, Live Trace.
- Transforming objects
- Rulers and guides, scaling, reflecting, rotating, distorting, changing perspective.
- Drawing with the Pen and Pencil tools
- Pencil tool, straight lines, curved paths, corner points, smooth points, anchors, pencil tool.
- Colour and painting
- Colour modes, creating colour, swatches, Color Guide panel, gradients, patterns, Live Paint.
- Type
- Threading text, formatting text, managing styles, envelope warp, text wrapping.
- Working with layers
- Creating layers, moving objects and layers, clipping masks, isolating layers.
