Fireworks is a very powerful graphics application designed especially for creating visual content for the web. It let's you work freely with vector and bitmap artwork to create anything from simple images for a web-page (or for pretty much anything, in fact) through to animations, interactive mock-ups of web-site designs and even the web-site itself.
Fireworks is fully derserving in its own right to be any web designers graphics tool but if Dreamweaver is your web authoring tool then their tight integration makes Fireworks an extremely attractive proposition.
This course is designed to be an introduction for those wishing to learn how to use Fireworks. The main features of the software will be explored in detail.
The course is delivered through instructor led, hands-on exercises tempered with overviews, demonstrations, discussions and individual practice.
Suitable For
Those completely or fairly new to Fireworks looking to get a good understanding of its main features.
Prerequisites
A good working knowledge of the computer and its operating system - for example to be at ease with: opening, closing, saving and locating files; using standard menus, commands and windows.

- Getting to know the workspace
- The main interface, panels and panel groups, working with multiple documents, undoing steps.
- Working with bitmap images
- Resolution, file size, cropping, importing, distortion-free bitmap scaling, retouching and repairing.
- Working with selections
- Selection tools, selecting objects, modifying selections, converting selections to a path.
- Working with vector graphics
- Vector drawing techniques, adding text, Auto Shapes, Pen tool, paths, customising strokes and fills.
- The Layers panel - your best friend
- Identifying objects, naming and rearranging objects, naming and rearranging layers, sub-layers.
- Masking
- About masks, creating and editing masks.
- Working with text
- Text basics, anti-aliasing, special text effects.
- Optimising for the web
- Optimisation basics, the Fireworks web tools, slices, hotspots, interactivity, exporting composites.
